When do interviews occur?
Interviews are scheduled on an ongoing basis according to when hiring partners have openings.
Am I eligible for Apprenti?
Apprenti is for women, veterans, people of color, and anyone looking for a path and a plan towards a career in tech. If you are 18 years and older with a high school diploma (or equivalent) you can apply for the Apprenti program. You must also be a United States citizen or permanent legal resident. Characteristics of successful candidates may include: persistent and able to learn new concepts quickly; collaborative and able to get along well with a variety of personalities and backgrounds; responsible and determined to complete the program and get the job done.
Do I need to have a degree to apply for Apprenti?
No, you do not need a degree to apply—only a high school diploma (or equivalent) is required. If you have a degree and are having a hard time getting a job in the tech field, Apprenti can help get you in the door.
How many apprenticeships are available?
Apprenti will place approximately 600 apprentices over four years in tech-related occupations.
How long do I have to take the assessment?
You have 10 days to complete the assessment once you start it. So, if you took the math section today, you’d have 10 days to complete the other two assessment sections.
Can I retake the assessment if I don’t do well the first time?
Yes, you are offered a bonus re-take after your first time taking the assessment. After that, you will need to wait three months to re-take the test. Your highest scores from each assessment area are used to determine your total score and rank. We encourage you to take the assessment multiple times to get the highest score possible.
Do I get to choose which apprenticeship occupation to apply for?
Yes, you can select which occupations you are most interested in. The hiring partner company will choose which apprentices they think are most qualified for their openings.
What can I expect once I’ve been accepted into the program?
You’ll be placed into an accelerated full-time technical training that will last from two to five months and lead to industry-recognized certification. Once you complete training, you’ll be placed a one-year, full-time, paid, entry-level position with one of the WTIA’s many hiring partners as an apprentice. Once you’ve graduated from your apprenticeship, you have the opportunity and experience to qualify for a full-time job at your hiring company.
Who are the hiring partners for Apprenti Program?
Apprenti partners with local tech leaders including Amazon, Avvo, F5, Microsoft, Russell Investments, MacDonald Miller, Silicon Mechanics, and Accenture. More are being added each month.
How much can I expect to earn during my one-year apprenticeship?
Your salary will depend on the occupation that you are an apprentice in. Registered apprentice salaries are 60% of market rate, a minimum of $42,000 in King County. An increase to 70% of market rate is provided at 6 months based on improved competency. You’ll receive health and dental benefits during the apprenticeship, and potentially other company standard benefits like 401k retirement savings or a health care savings account.
What is the time commitment I can expect?
The technical training period is a full-time, 40-hour per week commitment with homework requirements outside of class. It will not be viable for most apprentices to work part-time during technical training.
If I have acquired some technical skills through previous training, is it possible to bypass the training portion of the program?
Possibly. For software and web application development, there is a placement test that will determine what training you need. Active certifications in other occupational areas are considered.
How much does the training program cost and is it covered by Apprenti?
The training is currently offered at no cost to apprentices. The value of the training is at least $15,000 depending on the certification. Support from funders such as JP Morgan Chase support apprentice training costs.
What type of training will I receive?
The type of training you receive will be based on a combination of your natural talents, aptitude, qualifications and the positions that our hiring partners are seeking to fill. For example, if you are selected to apprentice as a database administrator, you will receive certified database administrator training at the beginning of your apprenticeship to prepare you for your job.
Who are Apprenti’s training partners?
Apprenti training partners include TLG, Microsoft, Cisco, Code Fellows and other code academies, Learn on Demand, Northeastern University and others as needed. Classes are taught in a combination of brick and mortar locations to hybrid, real-time online training with a live instructor teaching in a distance learning environment.
Once I complete the technical training, is the one year of paid on-the-job training portion of my apprenticeship guaranteed?
Yes, once you complete the technical training, you are guaranteed a position with one of our hiring partners.
Will I automatically have a permanent position with the company where I did my apprenticeship?
The hiring partner has the opportunity to retain their graduated apprentices. If you are not offered a full-time permanent role, you are eligible to apply for roles with other Apprenti hiring partners and we will provide access to job search resources.

What is the overall commitment for hiring partners?
As a hiring company you’ll commit to hiring an apprentice for a 12-month period, after the apprentice has completed their two to five-month training. Some hiring companies have chosen to commit to a set number of apprentices as a way to build momentum for the program within their organization.
How much will we need to budget for each apprentice?
The apprentice’s wage should be 60% of what the employer would typically pay an entry level individual in the position in which they are an apprentice, with an increase to 70% of that rate after 6 months. Apprenti has established a minimum level of compensation to ensure a living wage is provided. The minimum rate in King County is $42,000 for most occupations; the minimum is $45,000 for Software Application Developer and Web Application Developer.

Does each hiring partner get a chance to interview the program participants before making an offer?
Yes, your company will be given an opportunity to interview participants before making an offer.
Are hiring partners committed to hiring the apprentice after the initial 12-month program?
The goal of Apprenti is to find permanent placement within the technology industry for each of the apprentices participating in the program. We expect many hiring companies will want to extend full-time offers to their fully trained apprentices once the 12-month program is complete. However, we are clear with apprentices the program does not guarantee them full-time placement.
In what occupational areas do you train apprentices?
Apprenti offers apprentices in the following occupations: Software Application Developer, Web Application Developer, Network Security Administrator, Windows Systems Administrator, Linux Systems Administrator, Database Administrator, and Project Management. Apprenti can also build a specialized apprentice training program for you.
