Overview

A Systems Administrator is tasked with managing IT services and infrastructure, as well as serving as an escalation tier for IT support staff. This foundational skillset may branch into specializations over time, and is separated by distinct curriculum plans for Linux and Microsoft administrators.

Related Technical Instruction (RTI)

As part of RTI, system administrator apprentices generally receive instruction in: 

  • Computer Hardware and Technical Support
  • Network Fundamentals
  • Linux Systems Administration OR Windows Systems Administration

On-the-Job Training (OJT)

During OJT, systems administrator apprentices generally work on tasks substantially similar to the following:

  • Server administration
  • Software and network management
  • User and group management
  • Mail, directory, and collaboration services
  • Ticket management and documentation
