IT Business Analyst

Overview

An IT Business Analyst is tasked with collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data to help IT-related departments or business units make operational decisions. Data sources may include customer or user analytics, internal resource allocation metrics, staff performance metrics, or system logs. Apprentices are well-versed in project and workflow management, data visualization, and stakeholder analysis/communication.

Related Technical Instruction (RTI)

As part of RTI, IT business analyst apprentices generally receive instruction in:

  • Business and IT Fundamentals
  • Business Analysis Fundamentals
  • Data VIsualization and  Analysis
  • Database Fundamentals
  • Agile Project Management

On-the-Job Training (OJT)

During OJT, IT business analysts generally work on tasks substantially similar to the following:

  • Eliciting, documenting, and analyzing business requirements from various stakeholders
  • Mapping and analyzing current business processes and identifying areas for improvement
  • Liaising between business stakeholders and the IT team
  • Assisting project managers with planning and execution
