Overview
An IT Business Analyst is tasked with collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data to help IT-related departments or business units make operational decisions. Data sources may include customer or user analytics, internal resource allocation metrics, staff performance metrics, or system logs. Apprentices are well-versed in project and workflow management, data visualization, and stakeholder analysis/communication.
Related Technical Instruction (RTI)
As part of RTI, IT business analyst apprentices generally receive instruction in:
- Business and IT Fundamentals
- Business Analysis Fundamentals
- Data VIsualization and Analysis
- Database Fundamentals
- Agile Project Management
On-the-Job Training (OJT)
During OJT, IT business analysts generally work on tasks substantially similar to the following:
- Eliciting, documenting, and analyzing business requirements from various stakeholders
- Mapping and analyzing current business processes and identifying areas for improvement
- Liaising between business stakeholders and the IT team
- Assisting project managers with planning and execution
