Texas' Tech Economy
Three of the top ten fastest growing cities in the nation are in Texas, largely thanks to the booming tech industry that has emerged in the Lone Star State. Technology adds about $141.8 billion to the Longhorn state’s economy. Austin and Dallas are frequently named top cities for tech jobs, with Austin hosting giants like Apple, HomeAway and Dell, and Microsoft, NTT Data Services, Salesforce, and AT&T located in Dallas.
Dallas is the only metro area in the world with more than one Fortune 10 company headquarters, with Exxon Mobil, AT&T, and McKesson. The Dallas Region is among the top ten metro areas for high-tech jobs and the best tech companies to work for. In fact, the city was recently ranked #6 tech town in the nation, beating Seattle, Boston, Washington, D.C. Dallas-Fort Worth holds 40 percent of all tech jobs in Texas. Dallas ranks in the top 10 cities in the U.S. with the highest pay adjusted to the cost of living, and consistently ranks in the top 10 most affordable cities to live in the United States.
As the fastest- growing U.S. metro over the past decade, the Dallas Region is diverse, progressive and evolving everyday. More than 230 languages are spoken in Dallas, and with 18 percent foreign-born residents, Dallas is truly a growing international city. Dallas is among the 20 most racially diverse metro areas in the the U.S. With a vibrant and growing population, Dallas provides opportunities for people of many nations and ethnic groups to come together and share their cultures, talents, and perspectives on the world.
The Tech Talent Gap
Nationally there is a tech talent gap, and the same is true in Texas. Highly skilled talent is one of the key ingredients to success for tech companies today and for the foreseeable future. Sourcing that talent is getting harder and harder, and Apprenti Texas provides a solution for employers to access talent and for candidates to access tech careers.
