Overview
A Cybersecurity Analyst is tasked with hardening systems against external intrusion and investigating security breaches within IT systems. Also generally referred to as an Information Security Analyst, apprentices in this role may branch into Penetration Testing/Ethical Hacking or specialized roles within a Security Operations Center.
Related Technical Instruction (RTI)
As part of RTI, cybersecurity analyst apprentices generally receive instruction in:
- Network Fundamentals
- IT security Fundamentals
- Cybersecurity Analysis/Threat Management
On-the-Job Training (OJT)
During OJT, cybersecurity analysts generally work on tasks substantially similar to the following:
- Design, build, and test networks
- Configure and protect cloud data stores and local databases
- Analyze security requirements and configure networked systems
- Monitor and configure access control, authentication, encryption, and cryptographic
- systems, including intrusion detection and penetration testing
- Conduct security and risk assessments and system audits
- Develop and implement incident response and business continuity plans
